Life. It’s a chiaroscuro, Now gloomy. Now blissful.

They are recording a song, at the AIR studio. The singer is a charming young man, who looks somewhat sad. He begins to sing, the song pouring out of the depths of his heart, as though to offer a bit of solace, a strand of hope to someone overwhelmed by fate.
The song reaches, as it has reached thousands of other households, the bereaved young lady.. The voice is familiar to her, friendly. The song seeped in hope for her future, goes on eloquently, pleadingly, soothingly. The loss is grievous. Her sorrow enormous. But life is a divine gift, precious, not to be frittered away in sorrow, in self-pity. It has to go on.

Here is my attempt at translation of a great song from the old Telugu movie Velugu Needalu.

It is not fleeting, it’s not a dream, It’s life, it is invaluable.
Don’t drown it down the drain in a flood of tears.
It is not transient, not just a dream, It’s life, it is invaluable.
Don’t drown it down the drain in a flood of tears.
This tender creeper can bear dainty blossoms. Alas, it has fallen off on to the ground.
Will you leave it forlorn so ? Do you abandon it? Won’t you lovingly pick it up. Care for it. Make it thrive.
Be kind, –to yourself, to your life. It is not transient, not just a dream, It’s your life, it is precious.
Don’t drown it down the drain in a flood of tears.
Why do you insist on wallowing in this pervasive gloom?
Of what avail crying out in anguish, yielding limply to your tribulations ?
Take hold of the bright lamp of fortitude and march forth.
It is not transient, not just a dream, It’s your life, it is invaluable.
Don’t drown it down the drain in a flood of tears.
There is a glittering pearl, perfect in all respects,at the bottom of the deep, okay, it looks formidable, unfathomable.
But there is bliss, boundless beyond your blues.
Mind you, nothing of value comes to you abegging, seeking you, of its own accord. You have to delve into it. You have to grapple with it, you have to grasp it,.you have to overcome it. You have to grab it. That is spirit, that is courage.
It is not fleeting, it’s not a dream, It’s life, it is invaluable.
Don’t drown it down the drain in a flood of tears.

Here is the lyric in Roman Script,

Kfala kaanidee viluvainadee.
bratukoo. Kanneeti dhaaralaloanae bali chaeyakoo.
kala kaanidee viluvainadee.
bratuku. Kanneetii dhaaralaloanae bali chaeyakoo
Gaali veechi poovula teegaa naela vaalipoagaa
Gaali veechi poovula teegaa naela vaalipoagaa
jaali veedi atulae daanni vadilivaituvaa?
chaera deesi neeu poasee chigurinchaneeyavaa?
Kala kaanidee viluvainadee
bratukoo. Kanneeti dhaaralaloanae bali chaeyakoo.
Alamukunna cheekatiloanae alamatinchanaelaa ?
Alamukunna cheekatiloanae alamatinchanaelaa ?
Kalatalakae longipoayeei kaluvarinchanaeaa?
Saahasamanu jyotinee chaekoni saagipoa.
Kala kaanidee viluvainadee
bratukoo. Kanneeti dhaaralaloanae bali chaeyakoo.
Agaadhamau jalanidhiloanaa aanimutyamunnatulae,
soakaala maruguna daagee sukhamunnadilae.
Agaadhamau jalanidhiloanaa aanimutyamunnatulae
soakaala maruguna daagee sukhamunnadilae.
Yaedee tananta taanai nee dariki raadu.
Soadhinchi saadhinchaalee. Adiyae dheera gunam.
Kfala kaanidee viluvainadee.
bratukoo. Kanneeti dhaaralaloanae bali chaeyakoo.
bratuku. Kanneetii dhaaralaloanae bali chaeyakoo

This inspiring lyric by Srisri, set to great music by Pendyala, rendered soulfully by Ghantasala and picturised beautifully by Director Adurthi Subba Rao on ANR and Saavithri. The old Telugu movie is Velugu Needalu.
