Mamma, don’t, for God’s sake, leave us.

The youngsters are concerned. Their mamma is in peril, from a relentless scourge. They are rushing to see her, waste away before their streaming eyes. To be of a bit of solace, to her who has been solace personified to them..Their minds go back to the days when mamma cuddled them, held them by their fingers steadying their wobbly gait.
Her plight has wrought a sea change in the attitudes and values.they hold..
The trials and trbulations they encounter are trivial and mean when reckined against the wide expanse that is, life. Your sisters, the elder one and the tiny one whom you took for grsnted like you did your patient and loving mom, meam much more than anything else in life.

Here is the beautiful song, that I would have loved to write and perhaps even sung, ‘Amma ani kothaga’ , from the 2012, Sekhar Kammula movie, ‘Life Is Beautiful’ .The lyric set to sweet music by Mickey J Meyer, is written by Vanamaali.

First here is my attempt at a free translation in to English,

Let me holler out to you, ‘Mammaa’

We crave mamma dear, to holler out again and afresh to you, like we used to insistently ages ago, ‘ MAMMAA ‘
We crave for life to begin all over again, we as infants, as innocents, as your kids.
Even as the sky above and the earth beneath keep us company
And while the wind that billows out and the stars that twinkle in the sky, watching benignly over us, I crave for you, dearest mamma, Please for God’s sake don’t leave us, You’re all the wealth, all the gold of the world that we have.
We crave to holler out again and afresh, to you mamma, like we used insistently to, ages ago, , ‘ MAMMAAA’
We crave to begin life all over again, as bouncing infants, as innocents, as your kids.

When bleak shadows and dark nightmares assail me. I look around, for you to appear before me, singing the soothing reassuring time-less lullaby, ‘,Jabilli raavae.’, looking radiant like the far off moon, the Jaabilli, the Chanda Mama.
You were there always, as delicious, as delectable, as the dear morsel in your palm, right before me even before I cried out.in hunger,,
And then again you, looking like the kind and cool Jabilli, fed my eager ears with captivating tales,-(of princesses and shepherds, bears and wolves, demons and Davids, Goliaths and gaint-slayers, and beans that sprouted and grew out into skyscraper-vines, and bogeymen who carried naughty children away in the baskets they kept on weaving and witches that rode on broom-sticks holding recalcitrant kids by tufts of their hair.)
Even as the sky above and the earth beneath keep us company
And while the wind that billows out and the stars that twinkle in the sky, watching benignly over us, I crave for you, dearest mamma, please for God’s sake don’t leave us,
You’re all the wealth, all the gold of the world that we have.

Did it hurt you, mamma, when we siblings flew at each other’s throats, when molehill grouses mattered like mountainous wrongs, ?
We curse ourselves to eternal sleep, we have troubled you like specks of grit in the very kind eyes which guarded us ever as eyelids would their own eyes .
Even as the sky above and the earth beneath keep us company
And while the wind that billows out and the stars that twinkle in the sky, watching benignly over us, I crave for you, dearest mamma, please for God’s sake don’t leave us, You’re all the wealth, all the gold of the world that we have.

We are after all kids and infants before you, however bigger and older and greater.though we may grow .
Take pity on us, pray, stay put here for ever in our hearts.
We hope the Almighty has a kind heart, like yous, mamma,
we beseech him to grant a new lease of a new life, deploying you among us as His replica.

Even as the sky above and the earth beneath keep us company
And while the wind that billows out and the stars that twinkle in the sky, watching benignly over us, I crave for you, dearest mamma, please for God’s sake don’t leave us, You’re all the wealth, all the gold of the world that we have.

The Telugu lyric in Roman script.

Ammaa ani kothagaa mallee pilavaalanee,
thullae pasi praayamae, mallee modalavvanee,
ningee naelaa nilichae daakaa thodu gaa,
veechae gaalee, veligae thaarala saakshi gaa,
nuvu kaavaalae ammaa,
nanu veedoddae ammaa,
bangaaram nuvammaa.

Ammaa ani kothagaa mallee pilavaalanee,
thullae pasi prayamae, mallee modalavvalanee.

Nidura loa needanu choosi thulli padina vaelalo
yae kshanam eduravuthavoa jolapatavai.

Aakalani adagaka mundae noati mudda nuvvai
yae kathalu vinipisthaavoa jaabilammavai

Ningee naelaa nilichae daakaa thoadu gaa,
veechae gaalee,veligae thaarala saakshi gaa
nuvu kaavalae ammaa
nanu veedoddae ammaa
bangaaram nuvvammaa.

Chinni chinni thagavulae maaku loakamaina vaelaa,
nee manasaemaiina nochukunnadaa ?
Reppalaa kaachina neeku kanti nalusu gaa
vaedanalu panchina maaku vekuvunnadaa ?

Ningee naelaa nilichae daaka thaodu gaa,
veechae gaalee, veligae thaarala saakshigaa
nuvu kaavaalae ammaa.
Nanu veedoddae ammaa
bangaaram nuvvammaa.
Neeku pasi paapalamaegaa, enta edugutunnaa.
Jaalipadi maa edaloanae vundipoa inka
Aakhariki Daevudikaina Amma manasu untae,
Neeku tana baduluga kotta janmanivvadaa
Ningee naelaa nilichae daaka thaodu gaa,
veechae gaalee, veligae thaarala saakshigaa
nuvu kaavaalae ammaa.
Nanu veedoddae ammaa
Bangaaram nuvvammaa.
Here is a link to a video clip of this song on YouTube:. Amala, who appears here as the stricken mamma, looks so much Maa Ammalaa.
