Sweet Relics Light Lamps of love

Over two decades ago, we stayed at a flat which overlooked a distant cemetery. On the Deepawali day quite a few people, most of them along with their families dressed gaily, used to visit the graves, evidently of their dear departed, clean them up and place lighted oil lamps all over the tombs. They would also light crackers and, I am sure seek the blessings of their ancestors.
Halfway across the globe in Mexico and South America, people celebrate the memory of their ancestors as the Day of the Dead.
In the movie, Manchi Manasulu, there is is song which says, ” Those who have departed are virtuous. Those whom they have left behind are but their sweet relics.”
