Kingfishers on beauty-leaf trees dive down into brimming wells

Here is my attempt at translation into English of another nice verse from Amuktmalyada, typical of the emperor Krishna Raya’s style.

“Bullrush and beauty-leaf trees spread their boughs on to the terraces of the buildings. Kingfishers perched over the branches look down at the fish that abound in their clear waters. that are abrim unto the gleaming-black first ring of the wells situated along the main road of the city. And they swiftly dive-in headlong clamourously and fly out with their loot.
It looks as though they are deprecating and tearing apart, the love the lady of the household has for the colloquial dialect of the place.”
